Final tree planted in Thorlux woodland

Posted on Monday, 20 March 2023

After twelve years and 179,412 trees, the final sapling has now been planted at the Thorlux Carbon Offsetting Project at Devauden in Monmouthshire, Wales. The final tree was planted by retiring FW Thorpe Group Director David Taylor, pictured above left with FW Thorpe Group Chairman Michael Allcock.

Planting at the 215-acre site began in 2009 and since then it has become the first site in Wales to be accredited to the Woodland Carbon Code. In 2022, it was awarded a gold medal at the Royal Welsh Show for best broadleaf woodland of between 11- and 40-years growth. The site will continue to be maintained by a silviculturalist, and it is anticipated that the woodland will offset more than 44,385 tonnes CO₂e over the next 100 years.

But although the Devauden site has now reached capacity, this is not the end of the Thorlux Carbon Offsetting Project. Plans are being made for the next stage – watch this space for more news soon.
